About me
- Can I live with other cats? Potentially - Treat has been with his brother since birth but following his return to the Sanctuary on March 18th, they have sadly been separated. Treat is a friendly cat who may thrive in a home with another feline companion.
- Can I live with dogs? No - Treat is not suitable for a home with dogs, as he is very fearful of them. He can hiss and becomes anxious if a dog approaches him.
- Can I live with teenagers? Yes
- Can I live with young children? Yes
- Do I have any medical issues? Yes - Treat is currently on a daily dose of 5mg Prednicare tablets to manage a condition known as Feline Plasma Cell Pododermatitis. He has been receiving treatment for this condition since he first arrived at the Sanctuary in September 2024. In November 2024, Treat underwent surgery to stitch the wound, which significantly aided his healing process. However, it is likely that he will require lifelong steroid treatment to manage his condition effectively. Maintaining a consistent dose of 5mg daily has helped keep the issue under control in his front left paw. On May 1st, our Welfare Team will begin trialing Treat on a regimen of one tablet every other day, following veterinary advice. Potential adopters should be aware of the ongoing costs associated with steroid treatment and consider this before applying for adoption.
- Can I live as an indoor cat? Potentially - Given Treat’s medical condition, it may be best for him to be considered as an indoor cat. Treat and his brother Trick were adopted in February 2025 but unfortunately, after being allowed outside shortly after their arrival, Treat's foot became infected, necessitating another course of antibiotics. Consultations with our veterinarian have indicated that Treat's immune system may be too compromised to safely venture outdoors, as his paw is susceptible to infections. However, because Treat enjoys the outdoors, it would be unfair to confine him indoors entirely. For this reason, an adopter with a spacious home and the option of a catio or a secure, cat escape proof garden would be ideal. It is important to prioritize Treat's mental well-being, as he thrives in environments where he can lounge comfortably, such as his camp chair in his cat cabin while sunbathing.
We are heartbroken to announce that Treat has returned to our Sanctuary. Treat first came to us in September 2024, alongside his brother, Trick. They found a loving home together in February 2025. Unfortunately, after just a week of being allowed outside, Treat developed an infection in his foot. Following veterinary advice, he was to then be kept as an indoor cat. However, this posed a challenge as Trick was still able to explore the outdoors, leading Treat’s family to make the difficult decision to return him to our care.
Treat is a remarkable boy with a quiet and gentle disposition. He thrives on affection and loves to cuddle. As a long-haired cat, Treat is prone to matting and he has recently had a few patches shaved at the vets, leaving him looking a bit rough around the edges. But don’t let that fool you, his loving personality shines through and he is ready to bring endless joy to a new family.
Treat deserves a peaceful home where he can feel safe and cherished. If you think you could provide Treat with the home he needs, please reach out to us for more information. Let’s give this wonderful boy a third chance at happiness!
